For those who have it...there are 2 knobs in the back...

There's a black one, which controls the height of the skim in the neck...and there's a clear cylinder with an airhole on top of the nipple. This is attached to a yellow hose running to the pump. What does this do?

Also, my cup is filling up with water. I can't get the bubbles in the neck to drop lower in the neck. it's at the top of the tube draining into the cup. Shouldn't be skimming anything because there's nothing in the tank, just reef flakes, dry pukani rock, and saltwater. JUst running it, so I can get it somewhat broken in while the tank is getting up to 77/78 degrees before I cycle it, at which time I'll shut the skimmer off.

Make sure your exit slot on the skimmer isn't blocked.........that tube needs to be clear.

I have two Aquamaxx but not that exact model, so I'm not sure on the knobs.

The clear cylinder with the yellow hose is the air intake hose and the silencer (clear cylinder). This is how the pump draws air into the intake and then makes the bubbles in the skimmer. If there's a little knob/screw on the top of the clear cylinder, that could be for fine tuning of the air intake (I'm not familiar with the model of skimmer you have offhand; speaking in general terms here).

Is this a brand new skimmer? Open the exit valve up all the way for now and let the skimmer run wide open while it breaks in for a few days. Once it's broken in , you can begin dialing the valve closed to get the skim you desire.
