Hi All,

I am getting into this hobby. Last year, I bought a freshwater tank (48 gallon). However, I changed my mind and want to get into saltwater. Therefore, my tank is not a saltwater ready tank. I am thinking of getting Aquamaxx hfm (hangon filter + skimmer), instead of going with sump. I know that sump is better, but the investment is much more than just buying Aquamaxx hfm hangon filter and skimmer. Considering my tank is not big (only 48 gallon), do you think Aquamaxx hfm will be ok for now? Any help is really appreciated.

Ron

In all honesty, that is a little expensive, but should work just fine.

All a sump is, is extra water volume, and a place to hide equipment so you don't have stuff(heaters, hang on back filters, etc) in the display tank.

A sump or HOB filter isn't needed either. Rock, light, powerheads, and water is all you really need to be successful. Think of this hobby as more of keeping pristine water, then what lives in it. If you keep pristine water, what lives in it will thrive.

Thank you!
