Aquamaxx HOB 1.5 leaking water

Seems to be a bit of a design flaw on this skimmer.

on the inlet pipe, the water level rises to slowly trickle out of the inlet cut out on the skimmer. I dumped a good half gallon of water on the floor before noticing the leak. Removing the bubble stop helped, but now I am a bit scared to turn it back on. The inlet pie should be threaded to allow the use of a gasket instead of a smooth pipe that can leak if the water level gets too high.

Besides caulk or Plummer’s putty, does anyone have a solution to this? I would rather not use silicone in case I decide to return it.

agree with above, please show a pic. I have the same skimmer, it works like a charm, it shouldn't leak.

This is the intake tube showing the level of water leaking out of the intake. I did put the bubble stop back on, and it is doing better right now, but slowly filling.

This is a new tank and it is an HOB skimmer. The skimmer is going a bit nuts since it is a new tank so i restricted the air a bit to slow it down during the break in period, but the level gets too high in the skimmer.

My previous tanks all had in-sump, so this is new to me. Thanks

Have you tried to take out the red gasket, clean it throughly, and make sure it’s installed correctly?

Unfortunately that red gasket is just for vibration, it is not under pressure, there is a good inch of straight pipe and it freely slides forwards and backwards

Not sure what’s happening, but the splash from the bubbles popping caused so much salt spray for me that there would be a lot of water on the floor, I ended up putting it inside the sump , so it’s not HOB anymore

It sounds like you restricted to much, if completely closed off the water will over flow. It can be restricted but with something that allows some airflow.

that piece that you show on the pic is connected to an elbow joint. Are you sure they are really tight and snugly fit together? where are the drips coming from exactly?
