Hey guys and gals. I am looking at getting a better / quite protine skimmer.

I have been looking g around and the AquaMaxx seems to be looking pretty good. I also like how I would not have a pump hanging in the tank!!

I have a 55 gal tank and this is rated for 75 gal. Would this be sufficiant?

If anyone has had experience with this skimmer or knows someone who has, please let me know what you liked of did not like about it.

All the reviews u have read seem to say it works well its quiet, easy to clean and no one really has anything bad to say about it so far.

its a great skimmer. gets great reviews and good bang for the buck. make sure you get the "new" updated version, with the cones and bigger collection cup. if you want to upsize, even more, they just released a bigger version of the hob1. HTH

That is what I have been reading. I have been looking on ebay but can't find one for sale. I will check amazon. Do you know where I would be able to purchase one online?

it is a great skimmer. you didnt read wrong. WOW! seems they have become a bit more difficult to find!! ive seen a few for sale on the used threads, keep your eyes open, if thats what you really want

WOW.... I cannot seem to find any for sale online!!! How is this possible???

I actually went and checked a few spots for you, it seems to be sold out just about everywhere… I wonder if there's a hold up/delay from the manufacturer

I have to original HOB-1 on my 20 gal and is one bad little skimmer. I had a sea hare die in mthe 20 and the skimmer went nuts spilling purple looking coolaid out the cup. I never lost any livestock.Aquamaxx pulled out all the nasties quickly That skimmer rocks. Look on furm here someone I think just had one for sale. Good luck

Have you considered the Reef Octopus BH-1000?

I did look into RO. The only thing was I did see a couple review a that were great. Possibly the reviewer didn't know what we was doing.

Keep in mind I am new to the hobby and don't want something to complicated. Also really easy to do maintenance on! I will check it put a bot more.

What is the Reef Octopus BH-1000 rated for. 100 gal tank?

I want something over rates for my tank. I have a 55 gal.

Well I've been running the BH-1000 on my 26g for 2yrs now (my first skimmer) and it's been an awesome skimmer. You'd prob want the BH-2000 on your 55.

Only draw back is the intake tube needed to be modded a little. For better surface skimming. But I went one better. I added a pre-skimmer box :) Works like a dream!

You should look at the eshopps psk-100h. It's been a great skimmer for me. Runs between $160 and $170. I used to have it in my dt before I put a sump in and now it hangs ff my sump. Gives me a bunch more room to add a filter sock and a larger refugieum
