I have a new tank I am setting up ~40 gallons total system volume. I am debating between the following 2 skimmers and would like to hear people's thoughts on them. They are the exact same price so that isn't really a factor here.

Aquamaxx FC 80

Reef Octupus Classic 110

I run the Reef Octopus 110INT on my system (40 breeder with 20 sump) and I love it. it broke in fast, and always pulls a good skim :) It's never given me any issues and coralvue's customer service is phenomenal

I used to have RO 110int then switched to co-s1. Huge diff! Then I bought a Q3 for the big tank.

Not sure about the new Aquamaxx tho.

I have the small blue aquamaxx and I am really impressed with the build quality so thats how I am leaning.

I’d go with reef octopus. Have used both and I find reef octopus customer service to be better and the parts are easier to get should you need replacement down the road. Aquamaxx pushes out new products too often and they don’t carry parts for the old models, even when they are only 2-3 years old.

I haven't owned those two models, but I have had similar models of both. RO 110 ext and a AM 1.5 HOB, both worked great. Here is what I would consider if I was making the decision.

The replacement pump on the RO is about 90.00 vrs the AM 129.00.
The pump on the RO is super easy to remove and clean. vrs the AM not impossible but a little more work.
Where the AM outshines the RO is the bottom plate is removable making the inside of the whole skimmer very easy to clean when needed.

IMO either would be a good choice.

I’d been with RO almost ten years and in my last system ordered the AM FC-80, simply OUTSTANDING performance and easy to clean with the cup holder and their pump is quiter than the aquatrance from RO, honestly there’s no comparison in between pumps, aquatrance is ok but sicce 1.5 it’s a proven wayyy best pump. Any of them u’ll be ok. But this time I’m impressed with this little beast FC-80.
That’s my .02 [emoji106][emoji225][emoji886]

I just got the aquamaxx fc80 for my 40b/20L sump 2/3 months ago. I must say it’s the best skimmer I’ve ever owned and the thing is a beast. Worked just about instantly out of the box and pulls out some nasty stuff! If I was to do it all
Over again, I wouldn’t hesitate to get the aqua XX.

I’ve had RO 110, Aquamaxx HOB, co-s1 and Aquamaxx q3.

I’d say go Aquamaxx. These things skim!
