first off I took that marinedepot deal and got this skimmer for $266 on sale from $350. Installation was a breeze and I put it on my 90 gallon heavy stocked tank and it has such a small footprint for being rated for tanks up to 250 gallons that I couldn't resist picking it up. Barely even hear the skimmer, only when I open my stand door. Wanna know the best part? Broke in in less than 12 hours. No over skimming or overflowing. Highly recommended.

Looks like a nice skimmer...I almost bought this one as well but ended up getting a lifereef vs2. The fact that the pump is almost $200 to replace (if needed) was a little disturbing.

How does this skimmer compare to a reef octopus?

In terms of noise.
Reef octopus 4-5
Aquamaxx 8-9

Micro bubbles
Reef octopus 5-7
Aquamaxx 9

Overall Build quality
Reef octopus 7-8
Aquamaxx 9-10

No doubt aquamaxx is my favorite brand of skimmer. The pumps may be a little pricey to replace but the skimmer is well thought out. Has a handle for the collection cup. Like what other skimmers have that? And it's a nice twist on cup so you can't just knock it down like how my reef octopus was. You would assume that the pump being under the skimmer would take away from the surface area of the actual skimmer body but nope. I don't have any negative things to say. Broke in in less than 12 hours and I haven't had a problem. Made my tank super quiet.

They use quality pumps. Should last quite some time. :)

will this skimmer work well with a 12o gal?
