Hi, i'm hoping to buy the extra course aquamesh to cut a slit down the center and "jam" it over my baffle to keep chaeto in the correct compartment when it starts to die/fall apart. This will help keep it out of my pumps.

https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/black-1.html

Is the extra course pore size small enough to catch/hold the chaeto pieces that fall off of the main chunk, but freely allow pods and water to flow through?

I am only looking for something to catch the chaeto, no other use.

I assume that this product will work for my intended use, but wanted to send out a message before paying $25 for a piece of foam mesh.

Thanks!

I bought the medium grade. Had the same idea as you. Left it in there for a week. I was afraid that pods would get caught, so I took it out. It did catch the chaeto. I'm interested in what other people think also.

That's why I was hoping that the extra course would work for my needs.

I actually just got my mesh today.

The mesh is alot is a lot more coarse and open then I thought it would be.

It should stop cheato and let everything else threw.

Yeah, the medium looked like it would work too. Guess there only one way to find out. Took mine out, see chaeto in the dt. But not enough to see a problem. It doesn't survive very well there.

Just ordered the extra course - hopefully the pore size is not large enough to allow chaeto pieces through!

Sorry for the delay! I was waiting on some info from a few that are more familiar with that product. Here's what I found out; It would depend on the size of the pieces that are breaking off. It would likely catch any longer strands and definitely any clumps, but very small bits could pass through. The green 2-course mesh would likely catch all but the smallest pieces and would still allow free flow of the water.

Timely thread! I was just thinking of picking some of this up versus making an egg crate guard and having to run traditional floss strips across it to catch broken chaeto pieces.

I should be receiving my Extra Course tomorrow 1/20/18.

Once I get it in my sump, clean out my pumps of chaeto and rearrange, i'll post my experience here.

Ok got my sump organized and the extra coarse put in.

I think it works great!!!

It will let some smaller pieces threw at first. But after 1-2days it will not. I really like the idea that even with the smaller pieces "blocking" the way, there is enough room for bugs, detritus and anything else I want to pass threw can pass.

If you are looking for something that can just be left in, even after building up, I will probably have to clean this once a year. Smaller it may start to " block" some stuff

Anyways, that is my thought. Hopefully you feel the same
