Have to update this to talk about the great customer service that I received. There's a little bit of a story here, so stick with me. Also please note that I am in no way "sponsored" by this company, just sharing an experience.
I own the SmartController8 which allows me to program the lights across 4 different channels (I use 3). The controller also doubles as a power source and temperature monitor, and wouldn't you know it, started to fail a few weeks ago. I determined that the problem was two-fold... first, the internal clock on the controller started to "freeze" ... this meant that the lights were not coming on on-time because the clock was not moving. Second, the temp probe was functioning, but the controller reading of the temperature was failing (there's a long story behind how I determined this, but I won't bore you with more details).
I purchased the SmartController8 on 9/5/2018 from a wholesaler that no longer exists online. I contacted the manufacturer, TMC, that is based in the U.K. They referred me to a wholesaler in the US, different (obviously) than the one that I purchased from. That wholesaler contacted a US distributor, with whom I had many email correspondences. Unfortunately, because I didn't purchase the product from the referred wholesaler or distributor, they were unable to honor the warranty. This is understandable, I don't fault them for this.
So I went back to the contact at TMC in the U.K. and explained the situation. Without hesitation they said they would find a solution for me, but needed a few days to coordinate. Just the other day I got an email that they are sending me a new controller! I'm obviously very excited to know that I will be able to continue to use these lights to their fullest extent. Sure I could just use a simple power supply and power-up/power-down 0%-100%, but the controller, with included temp monitoring, is a really nice addition to these lights.
I've chimed in on various threads when folks ask for lighting options, offering the AquaRay lights as something that should be looked into. One of the things I always say is that the warranty (5 years on lights, 2 years on PSUs and controllers) was a big selling point for me. Anyway, I wanted to add to this thread to let folks who find it that the warranty is being honored, no questions asked.
Great product, great warranty, great customer service!
