Hey everyone. Kial here from Australia! Came across this forum when researching all things saltwater/reef so thought I would make a post to say hi and hopefully get some useful information while I'm at it.

I'm picking up my new tank this week, aqua one aquareef 400 and I will be slowly building up all my equipment needed to get started. May document my progress on here also if anyone was interested in following.

Im a complete newbie with saltwater, I've got a successful freshwater tank and thought I would upgrade into this for the hobby!

If anyone has or used to have the aquareef 400, do you have any advice with this tank. For example, an ideal skimmer that works best for this tank.

Thanks in advance.

Kial

Kial, welcome to R2R and the community Congratulations on going to salt water.

Hey Kial welcome!
I'm also from Australia, have an aquareef 300 (started with an aquareef 120). They're great set ups but as to what equipment you want depends on what you're planning on keeping.
The lighting on the tanks are pretty basic but I had good results with my corals with a higher scape and extra flow.
I think these tanks are pretty deep for reefs so for my 300 I invested in 2 Ai HD Primes and think they're great. Also got a Nyos skimmer - works a dream once you've got the settings right. Also bought a second hand chiller with the warm weather approaching....

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah I read that the light's were a bit basic so I'm sure I will upgrade those in time. As I'll be starting off with just a FOWLR tank whilst I get a hang of everything first the lights shouldn't be an issue.
Does your tank make a lot of noise? I've read a few posts saying others have had to use a bit of diy to solve this.

I'll have a look into that skimmer as the aqua one's standard skimmer for this tank seems to have mixed reviews. And definitely seems like a chiller is a good idea so Ill grab one of those when I get some money together.

Will probably be a good few weeks before I even put some water in the tank as I'm going to try make sure I have everything I need before i start.

The only noise I found irritating was the skimmer....the Nyos is so quiet I keep checking that it's still working lol! If you're in Queensland I recommend you join MASQ - been invaluable regarding advice and getting good quality second hand equipment

Lol yeah I can imagine I would be constantly checking if I couldn't hear it. I've checked the price for the nyos skimmers but they are a little out my price range for now.
I've tried making account with masq but for some reason I don't ever receive the email to confirm my account which is annoying.

That's weird, I can email them if you want and see what the problem is...maybe the admins are on hols

I've tried 2 different email's and still nothing.
That would be great if you could mate as I couldn't find any contact information on the site. Or just let me know the email and I'll send one.

Thanks
