Not updated my build thread in a while.
Made quite a bit of progress, with some new additions of a royal dotty back, fire tail goby, hammer coral and some zoas.
The tank went through the diatom phase and cleared itself up but unfortunately it came back with a vengance
I'm really enjoying the aquareef 400, the only downside is I still get a slight leak now and again from the bulkhead.
The standard skimmer which comes with the tank can be a pain, g220 pro skim. after each clean you have to readjust settings, which usually leads to it over flowing
I love ASM skimmers. Industrial, not pretty, but consistent work horses for a reasonable price.

Unfortunately I've not got the funds to upgrade any equipment at the moment. But a new skimmer will definitely be on the list! I don't feel the g220 really pulls much out. Apart from the middle cone getting gunky and about 1cm of dirty water in the cup,

hi,
do you remember how heavy is tank, w/o anything on in yet...
just wondering if me & the wifey could carry this up our house...

thanks

I don't know the exact weight but it's pretty heavy! The hardest part was lifting it from the floor into the back of the pick up, took 3 of us to get it up. My misses wouldn't of been much help with it haha.

Looks awesome mate I'm looking at same set up to buy. Would you have any pics of the sump

Hey guys
New to the hobby and after following a few people posts taking us through their process, I thought it would be interesting to start my own. Also a good way to get any advice along the way from anyone who's interested in following along.

So I recently purchased the aqua one aquareef 400 s2 which comes with the new LED lights (the first series came with t5s) also two 300w heaters, return pump and filter sock.
After a shocking start with the problem of my bulkhead leaking badly when the return pump was switched on, I now have a tank with zero leaks. I did have to purchase a few different fittings to achieve this though which after spending $2300 aud on a tank you wouldn't expect to have to Make adaptations just to get the tank running.
I've also purchased the g220 skimmer that also seems to be a problem as it does not fit the sump as it should (g220 was reccomemded for this tank)

Yesterday I added 20kg of coral sand that is enough for a shallow sand bed. Wasn't to keen on having deep sand bed anyway. Also I purchased 18.5kg of caribsea south seas base rock. As you can see in the photos I still probably need another load of rock.

Can anyone suggest a decent wave maker that would suit this size of tank?

Hi mate do u still have the tank going

Also it says it's a refugium sump ? Dosnt look like much room . Or do u need a hang on skimmer to achieve that?

Yeah it's that skimmer. There is very little space in the sump, theres a heater section, a small spot where I sometimes place my phos reactor. Large part is the skimmer with very little room for anything else so if you get a HOB skimmer you could use that as refuguim and then the return pump section.
