I was reading that it is good to dose with coralline amino acids and other things that our aquariums lack compared to a real reef. My question is does anybody dose their tanks with any of this stuff OR anything similar? Does it benefit the corals and wat not? Does it make the skeletons stronger? At the current moment i dont does ANYTHING in my tank except DT's magnesium once a week. I havent incurred that much bioload to be dosing with calcium and alkalinity yet i just do 20% water changes EVERY two weeks. I also dont dose with any of this other stuff cuz i am not knowledgable about any of these things. All the inhabitants in my tank are doing fine but i guess its always good to improve in some way. Any input?

I think a good rule of thumb is "Don't dose anything that you are not testing for." It doesn't matter if it's calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, iodine, iron, etc.... if you don't know what the level is in your tank, you are flying blind and could easily do more harm than good by overdosing.
Personally, I only dose calcium, alkalinity and magnesium. I have a very high coral load in both my tanks.

i only does calcium, alk, and mag but i always test these params. before i add. and i also add iodine.

I only dose the magnesium but i have the 3 part DTs Reef Elements..
1 CA, 2 Alk, and 3 Mag. I used to does the Ca and Alk before testing and it was a mistake cuz my CA was 580ppm and Alk was 12 dkh. With bi weekly water changes my Calcium is at 420ppm and Alk at 7 dkh. I think that those levels are fine but when i start to get a higher bioload i might have to start dosing. I just added the four rare montis.. a 2 inch Sunset, 3/4" Rainbow, 3/4" Superman and 3/4" Pokerstar. I was talking about the other additives such as amino acids and others........

Yes, that's what I thought you were asking about. What I'm saying is, until they come up with a hobby test to verify the levels of these mystery amino acids in my tank, I'm not dosin' 'em!

i personally dont add any amino acids or anything like that either. however, i know there are a lot of people out there that do. maybe someone that does can chime in here...

We swear by Warner Marine additives, and use the entire line exclusively. Regarding the WM Ultimate Aminos... The stuff should be illegal, seriously. We've been using it here for over a year, and we have never seen polyp extension like this before. We use it on the show system (as well as the farm) about twice a week, in minor dosages, with FANTASTIC results. WARNING! Overdosing this product will make cyanobacteria go nuts, but in small quantities, it is awesome. We've seen significant changes in both SPS as well as LPS.
