Hi everyone.

New guy here. Very green.

I'm looking for my first aquarium and was pretty sure what I wanted but now rethinking (overthinking perhaps).

Anyway, I had pretty much decided on the Red Sea Max Nano. I love the look of the Red Sea's and they generally seem noob friendly. And the all-in-one was appealing.

Then...

So, I started thinking the Red Sea Reefer 170 (with the lights) may be better for me.

I figured not too far in the future I would want to start tinkering and also, and I could be way off base here, it seems once you get everything setup a dispatched sump in the cabinet would be easier to clean, mess with, etc.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Thank you!

I vote 170. It’ll stave off the inevitable upgrade.

You’ll have plenty of tinkering to do with qt tanks, scrubbing alge , overflowing skimmers , setting lights and more!

So I'm back to the AIO -- but the Max 170. My rational is that I also don't know anything about keeping the water right, saltwater fish, and growing coral. I really think it's best I get the tank set up and focus on that aspect, else I may end up with a beautifully engineered tank, but nothing in it :-).

By getting the max 170 I can add the external sump later if I want, or trade up to a Reefer (that's what I really have my eye on when I'm ready to tinker).
