So I wanted to give my take on my new fish feeder
I don’t know how many people run feeders on their tank, but I put the apex AFS on my tank about a week ago. It’s not really much to speak of about being special. And if you check out the reviews on it, every one complains about one thing...... the noise it makes!!!! When I first plugged it up to program it, I did notice the noise above anything else. But it wasn’t a deal breaker for me. Instead after about the third day of running it I noticed my fish go straight to the surface of the water right under where the food drops from. So I’m not sure if it’s the noise the fish “hear” (not even if fish do hear haha) or if it’s the vibration they pick up in the water like sharks do.
It’s still very cool watching the fish go swimming up to the surface when I turn it on to feed the fish. Kind of like coming home from vacation and your dog comes running up to you so you know how excited she is to see you.

I couldn’t warrant the extra cost of the Neptune AFS. I’m using Lifeguard Aquatics which is very similar to Apex design. I set my time for feeding for a minute past when the pump and skimmer shut off.

I use an Eheim automatic feeder. Just like other Eheim equipment, it's very well-built, robust, and reliable. It's inexpensive, too. I accidentally dropped it in the tank twice. Each time I cleaned it with fresh water and dried it. It still works. It's very quiet, too.

As for the fish, my fish seems to know when it goes off. They gather under the feeder with a home-made chute and wait for it to go off. They also come and beg for food every time I pass by the tank.

Wow that looks just like the AFS !!! I do like how the feeder is pulled back inside the housing so that the moister doesn’t make the fish food sticky

So I have been considering this since Brew12 said he feeds into his sump and let's his return pump disperse the food. I like the cost point of the Eheim but I noticed it runs on batteries, not sure if this is a good thing. This frees up a plug and no cord, but I don't think I want to change batteries or risk dead batteries and me not notice until it is to late. Can you get the Eheim with a cord?

I don't think Eheim feeders come with a cord. The battery last a very long time for me. I have to make sure the feeder is still loaded with food every so often. It runs out of food long before batteries. It does have a low battery indicator.

Battery version- Eheim and cobalt
Electric- Apex AFS for sure

+1 on Eheim feeders - I have two and both work flawlessly. Batteries last a long time, and yes fish know when it's feeding time, they make more noise at the surface than the feeder spinning.

I normally only run a single Eheim when I am home but add a 2nd one when I travel. That way if one fails I know they are still getting at least some food.
Then again, my fish could probably use a diet.
