I brought home a new 150 gal aquarium and only after I got it in the door I saw the instructions that included the words "for freshwater use only". Did I just make a huge mistake or will I be OK. Not sure why an aquarium cares if it is filled with saltwater. Ugh.

Hmm I’m curious as to why it would matter. What kind of tank is it?
Its a top fin from petsmart. Never even thought about it. Why in the world would it matter. Not I am sweating the whole thing.

Strange. If it’s the same one they have online it says saltwater and freshwater. I don’t see what would make the difference.

Did you read the reviews? That tank has really bad reviews about the bottom seals leaking. Multiple reviews say that.

no i did not read the reviews. I figured that they would be mixed since the tank is low end. I am prepared to take that risk. But I was not anticipating a problem with putting saltwater in it.

That the one. Exactly. At the bottom of the instructions it says "for freshwater use only" Who would think of such a thing?
Instructions for an aquarium? What do they say, fill with water, enjoy? Or is it the instruction to put together the stand?

Personally after reading the reviews, I would be taking it back, or at the very least building another stand.

I wouldn’t hesitate putting salt water in it. I thought maybe those reviews were the reason they say that but it looks like most of those reviews were with freshwater.

The stand is obvious crap. Plan to reinforce it with 2x4s.

FALSE ALARM. Sorry folks. The instructions are for the cheap florescent lights that came with the tank. Obviously the cheap lights cant take the salt. Whew.

Now I just have to worry about the weight of 150 gallons. I plan to place over a steel beam. But that is an awful amount of weight and not sure how to assess that.
