I’m thinking about changing the lid on my JBJ 65. I currently have a mess screen. My LFS can make me a polycarbonate lid the will have 1 larger opening with its own lid and several smaller openings surrounding. It will be similar to a clear view one but without the mesh and the cost? What do folks think? Not concerned about fish jumping through the smaller openings. Basically, I think it will be a nice addition.

There will be some condensation but it's not the end of the world. It sounds like a good deal. I was not happy with my clear view so I would not recommend using them or waiting months.

Take into account that you may need to increase your light settings to maintain the PAR your tank is used to (assuming you have coral here). I have an acrylic tank with a solid recessed lid. I like it. I tested my PAR yesterday and it definitely reduced the par (I did a realistic test where I had lots of condensation on it, and some salt creep on top of it too; a clean lid likely wouldn't block as much par). As long as you can make that adjustment, it should be fine. The other consideration is reduced gas exchange at the surface but that may not be too concerning.
