I have a 55 gallon tank trying to turn it into a reef tank with lots of work but anyway I'm looking for lights I need a 48" light but not sure if led or t5 and what color and how many bulbs I'm trying not to break the bank

The biggest and most important question is what is your budget?

yes what you want to keep and how much you can spend is key

I have a mixed reef 55g with 2 AI vega's I purchased used on here...I spent $570 total with a controller/DIY hanging kit

Two of THESE would be perfect for a four foot tank....and be enough light for any and all corals. On a budget, you won't find anything less expensive with that much light, in the long run. Note that T5's require a yearly bulb change, and at 22-23 bucks a pop, these fixtures pay for themselves in less than two years.

Not sure what corals I want to have in there I was trying to figure out what light is best then find coral to match the light

I'd go t5 if it was me. But that's my opinion. My led days didn't go so well and I'll probably not try again.

I was thinking a 4 bulb t5 fixture but didn't know what bulbs to mix and match

Depends on what you want to grow and the look you want. I use halides so I'm not up to date. Should be many many threads on it though.
