Aquarium Mixed Reef Layout Planning

I would love to hear how all of you plan your tanks and the placement of corals for a mixed reef.

I know some people like to remove the frag plug Glue their LPS and SPS corals directly to the rock. Others use 2 part, and still others just leave in on the plug until they've figured it all out.

I'm curious, how everyone mentally makes their minds regarding tank planning decisions.

For example, Someone makes via progression 1-2 corals a month vs someone who has nearly all the coral needed just sitting around/ just moving from 1 tank to another; in a sense nearly a somewhat stocked tanked from the get go.

How about:

Space: (How much space do you like to leave when placing)
Rock: (Side Placement vs Top of the rock placement)
Species: (Do you like to load your tank with one type over another first?)

There are plenty of guides about where to place specific corals. I'd love to hear more what peoples experiences are and then what led them down the road in their tank design. Please feel free to chip in, I'd love to see this grow.

I drilled over 150 holes the size of a frag plug stem in my rocks. It's just a 40g cube and now has over 100 corals (mostly zoas with a few softies, lps and sps) and 40 anemones. In my tank, most of the time it's survival of the fittest!

I'm also interested to see the responses to this topic. I have a FOWLR that's been running for about 5 months and I'm just about ready to start adding coral. However, I don't want to blindly add coral without having some overall design scheme in place (blame my OCD). Anyone make placement decisions based in whole or in part on complimentary colors?
