I have been out of saltwater reefing for 10 years. I got out during the recession. Now I want to come back. I have an aquarium that has been in an unheated garage (in Ohio) and wonder if it would be safe to use again w/o bursting. The current prices have went through the roof. Any thoughts?

I agree that I would water test it outside and then if the silicone looks good I would be willing to use it.

The size of the tank would matter for me too, if it's a small tank I'd get a new one but if larger and expensive to replace I'd use it.

It's a 180. Maybe I should jump back in a little smaller now that I think about it. It's just that I have all the equipment. Hopefully, some of it still works until I can slowly upgrade each piece.

I kept a 150 long (72x2x21")in my unheated garage (Grove City, neighbor!) for about 7 years while I finished the basement. I used it to store garden tools. When it was time to set it up I water tested it in the garage for a week or so, drained it and put it in service. It did just fine for 5 or 6 years and still held water when I sold it off.

HTH!

pro tip - check out Rivers to Reefs on Cherry Bottom Rd- great store. Aaron (formally of PhishyBusiness and Byerly's) owns it.

Fill it with cool water and allow to sit 48 hours and you will know

Love the Buckeye reefers around here! I’m in Cincy and always enjoy seeing people from local areas come together. I’m gonna check out that shop next time I’m in Columbus @Billdogg thanks

Looks like you getting some good advice. Check your cost, but you might be better off setting this one up. Your only doing it once :)
