Had a 500gal glass before and a 400 acrylic. I went with starphire glass for this 480 build because glass is crystal clear, harder to scratch, easier to clean.

The only downside is the initial placement. After that, it's all pro vs acrylic.

It was actually that weight. Took 12 of us to move the beast. But it's a heck of a gorgeous tank and cant wait to see it filled in with coral growth. My buddies 225 glass is as much as your 450 lol.

I've never been a fan of acrylic either. I prefer glass for the reasons you've listed. This 150 wide is a dream tank build for me. Just without the giant insanely inflated pricing that reef savvy or tank me use has.

Only had 7 suction cups to lift, and dollies only to move it into the house. It was the second time lifting it for a few of us. This was definitely something I will not be doing again. Ever. Period.

Lol bulletproof glass tank.... that's a heck of a selling point. Better safe than sorry at least. This is exactly why I'm being cautious as hell before I set this one up. I dont want to Renovate my house again as its only 7 years old. Acacia wood is very expensive, and I definitely dont want to lay more hardwood anytime in my life again.

Makes me wonder if a tank has ever been built from Lexan...

Although aesthetically fine, I find scratches on a new system unacceptable. I would want some type of livestock credit or extended warranty on the tank in the event of failure which I don't see occurring.

Yeah that’s why I went acrylic. My 450 was 575 lbs. empty. A corresponding glass tank more like 1,200. My back aches just thinking about it.

I own two acrylics and speaking of scratches, they scratch even easier no matter how careful you are

If you use the correct silicone it will bond. The aquarium silicone ASi on Amazon bonds INSANLEY strong to acrylic and glass. It's what I use to build sumps. It's easier to get off the glass than the acrylic lol

Silicone and acrylic rarely mix/bond well. Silicone on an acrylic tank is merely a bandaid which will separate in time.
