I'm looking at a 150-260 gallon aquarium. What are the major considerations on aquariums this size for dimension? I have seen a a 150g that is 48 x 24 x 30, which would seem bad for fish that need for distance to swim, plus harder to work on. I can also only assume this would affect lighting and flow. Just want to make sure I'm taking everything into consideration.

tanks higher than 24" can be more difficult to work on. almost everyone will agree that longer tanks are better for fish than taller tanks.

A great sized bigger tank is 6 foot by 3 foot by 24" which is around 260 gallons. lots of room for aquascaping and good length for fish.

Hope this helps.

In my opinion, the tank depth (front to back) should be at least the same, or longer than the height. This gives you the best aquascaping possibility. Having adequate front to back is so important. Most experienced reefers will agree to this and would spend the extra money to get it. I will NEVER EVER buy a tank that is taller than deep. Unless it is for fish only I might consider it.

The reason side shots look so good is because you have all the coral colors contrasting against each other. Having a deep tank helps get that same look when viewing from the front.

Also, don't get a tank with a tower style overflow. Spend the extra money to get a ghost-style overflow. Don't waste that valuable real estate.

Good luck.

I have a 220-gallon tank that I'm currently building. I was going to get a 180 thats 6x2x2 but I found a 220 that adds an extra 6 inches taller. Some people may not light the height but I don't mind it. It makes it look like an actual aquarium. There's space for everything and it's not crammed together

my 185 is 60x24x30 & I wish I had gone. 60x30x24 or 72x30x24. I can't reach the bottom & that's the worst part.
