Hi,

I have a few q's about building and aquarium stand:

- Is there a certain type/brand/color that is recommended? Or is it just what looks good? Is it deck stain, solid stain or semi-transparent stain?

- Do we use a waterproofing stain on the outside?

- What is the white waterproof stuff that is put on the inside of stands and can it be a different color?

- Is there a more step-by-step guide to making a *good* aquarium stand online?

Thanks!

Really I think it depends on your personal tastes. Most people choose stains or wood types based on matching the decor of their home. Always add a finish seal to the outside, as continual exposure to water will eventually ruin stains or paints. Generally the white inside the stand is paint, and the best source for ideas is to look at build threads in the DIY section.

If you're building the stand 100% wood, i use kilnz white primer/sealer for the inside. You can also use caulking in the seams before painting to make it even wore waterproof.

As far as exterior goes, its whatever looks good to you, just make sure you seal/protect it after stain or painting,
