Looking for suggestions for a new display tank only, I already have a nice sump.

Would like to have a rimless, 50-65 gallons, with built in overflow or able to purchase a tank thats pre-drilled. I don't want to risk drilling myself.

I like the waterbox aquariums, but theirs come with sumps, if I could buy aquarium only I would consider.

I like the marineland 60g cubes with overflows. They're rimless, and the cube shape gives so many options for aquascaping.

If you are looking at a new aquarium, I would suggest you get a new aquarium with built in external overflow. The aquarium is much easier to design internally with reef build and cleaner look when you do this and plumbing is easier. This way you have the entire inside the aquarium to design flow, etc. No obstructions.

That's what I did on my current tank. SCA will do a custom tank for the ghost overflows. Steve is a very easy guy to work with. I either communicated via email or chat on facebook but you can also call him. I've seen quite a few people post on facebook about doing the 90g with the external overflows.

Check out Miricles Aquariums, they have stock priced rimless tanks you can have custom drilled or have an external overflow added to.

Edit: double checked there stock tank list and they don't seem to have a long tank in those sizes so it would be a custom build.

Just checked out your build thread, looks nice. Where did your stand come from?

I have internal over flows. They prevent me from putting power heads as far back as I would like. If I fish gets into an internal overflow, it is difficult to get it out. The third advantage to an external overflow is the cleaner look.

For the aquarium itself, a tank with a 4’ length gives the aquarist more options for fish including some of the smaller tangs. But a 4’ tank gets into the 70 gallon to 120 gallon size which is bigger than you are talking about.

Yikes...I need to update my signature. I recently sold the 66g after I upgraded. On the 45g that's a custom tank I had them do. It's basically the 90g that's 14" high. That's one of SCA's solid wood stands. When I got it Steve was using a cabinet maker that wasn't producing really quality work. Luckily my stand was done fairly well. In the last year or so I think he's changed to a new cabinet maker and I don't think I've seen any reviews / remarks about them.

To PatW's point, on my new tank I went with a 130g Planet Aquarium and had them to the external overflow. You'd be surprised how much space you get back in the tank.

What are you thoughts on SCA or Planet Aquarium?
Both are great manufacturers. Good quality on both...PA may have SCA edged out slightly because I've seen a few more complaints about silicone work or stand quality on the SCA's than I have with PA. I had PA do their Tideline overflow and wasn't too happy with it. It took me forever to get it to quit leaking down the back of the tank. Others with the same tank / overflow said they didn't have any issues. Whichever you go with I'd recommend using the ghost overflow. SCA is built in China I think while PA is built here in the states so it affects pricing.

Forgive my ignorance, but what’s the difference between a tideline and a ghost overflow?

Anyone used glasscages.com?

Just checked them out. I can get almost exactly what I want for less than $500. It also includes low iron glass and drilled out for overflow.
