Despite turning my heater off in the aquarium for 3 days now, the temp in the tank will not go lower than 79. Its climbed up to 80 despite having the a/c on and a house fan blowing into the sump thats running 24/7 more or less. I was wondering if this is the cause from a second return i have in the display for UV or is there something else? Thank you!

Every piece of equipment adds heat. No avoiding it. I have a similar issue in my 210g. Temp sits at 80 even with the house at 71.

79-80 is really not a problem. Just keep the temp stable.

But would a fan mitigate the heat? because if i turned off the fans and a/c the tank would go up to 84 :/

A fan will cool my tank, but not when I run it over my sump. I have a Reefer 525xl so the sump is enclosed in the stand. It just doesn’t have enough surface area over the water to increase the evaporation needed to cool. My tank is on the second level of the house, and it gets pretty warm in the summer even with the air on. I clip a fan on to my lights, and blow it across the whole tank. Using an apex to control when it goes on and off it will hold the tank right at 78 degrees.

How many watts of UV did you start, and what is your tank volume. You may have oversized a tad.

It's an aqua UV 57w, definitely oversized XD and tank is a 525xl as well :)

I had a similar problem with my 280 and tried a fan in the sump first with no good results. Once I got a fan set up to blow across the surface of the water up top my temperature came down to 78.5 where I like to keep it. I use a seaside aquatics aquarium fan. Not too expensive and easy to set up.

Depending on your coral, 80 is pushing it in my opinion. On its own, it may not outright cause a problem, but it is a stressor and can cause issues in cumulation with other stressful events. Personally, I'd get a chiller and stop worrying about the temp.

How many would I need for a 140g total?

Im turning the tank into a sps tank so I think that temp may be an issue as well I have so many gadgets on the tank and am looking for a simpler option :)

80 is for me a limit. Im ok with that temperature. I just bought a chiller unit on Saturday after running at average 83.7 for 5 weeks. Finally gave in and now my tank is maintaining 78.3 degrees at last !!
