How many of you have freshwater tanks also? Just curious. I think I will set up a discus tank also, they are majestic and come in many beautiful color variations.

More than one tank is allot, I hope i can maintain two tanks. Discus and reef tanks are both special care. I owned a discus before though.Freshwater was the "gateway tanks" that lead me to saltwater. I had freshwater tanks for over 45 years and attempted to maintain a 75 gallon fresh tank after setting up saltwater in 2007. The freshwater lasted about a year, and had to go....too much.
Yeah, some people do overkill, maybe he kept allot in one tank. I had mine in a planted tank and if I get more I do another planted tank. I like natural looks, with drift wood. I changed the water once a week. Famous discus breeder jack wattley, keep all his breeder discus in a bare tank with nothing in it. Now that they are all captive bred, mostly, they are allot easier to keep. In the beginning, when they were just wild caught allot of people couldn't keep them, it was too hard.I had a friend who raised discus and did 50% water changes every day.

He sounds like he's got all his stuff together. He have had beautiful discus. All discus are beautiful. That's exactly how this friend kept his tanks.....a male and female, a ceramic looking cone to lay their eggs, and a bubbler/filter looking think....that's it. He also insulted the quality of discus we found in most LFS's in the area. He got his breeding stock from Europe.....I think Germany. He was extremely particular in the quality of the breeding stock.
I guess you and I are the only ones who think freshwater tanks are pretty. That's exactly how this friend kept his tanks.....a male and female, a ceramic looking cone to lay their eggs, and a bubbler/filter looking think....that's it. I totally agree, I will probably have a reef tank and discus tank. They are like opposites with water parameters.lolMy dad raised discus for a long time when I was a little girl. I think they are beautiful! He would breed them and sell the babies to pay for his tank equipment upgrades and food and new fish for my sister and I. It was great. I'm definitely in the more "natural" camp with freshwater tanks. I don't like seeing castles and bubbling scuba divers lol
like my avatar which is the reef version. I've only owned micro tanks, a fun challenge niche. So I guess a 300 gallon tank isn't in your interest? Lol.I have 4 of these micro tank and stands, this is the last one which is .5 gallon terrarium. ..![]()
