Aquascape opinion poll

I am in the process of rebuilding my aquarium, I finally am setting up the aquascape. I took a lot of inspiration from the old tank, after having it for years I found a lot I liked about it.

The new aquascape has more foreground to the rocks, and is not quite so densely packed. Hopefully with more space for coral growth. However I feel something looks off about it, and am unsure what.

What do you like better. The old design:

Any suggestions on things to change?

I like the old tbh but both look good my eyes just find the old more pleasing.

I vote second. Just because it seems to flow a bit better . The first one to me looks like rock just piled up.

Yeah, I like the second also. It gives more of a sense of depth to me.

Hmm, not helpful perhaps, but there are things I like and dislike about both. If it were me I’d stick with the second one but dispense with the extra tall bits on the left. You have a nice high to low as you go right to left but then those additional high pieces ruin the aesthetic for me. Also broadly follow the golden ratio/rule of thirds to avoid unnecessary symmetry.
