Hey folks,

Working on a Reefer 170 (34g) build and I just got my first delivery of Real Reef dry rock and I really like the way it looks. I don't have the tank yet but I was playing with aquascaping formations and I think I have a pretty good one. Opinions please.

Depends what corals you go for, the middle of the arch looks a little dark so you may be limited what can go on that ledge, and the height might limit what can go on the top if it too, I would probably move the top of the arch to the sand bed, if room allows.

Personally, not a fan. Top arch will be covering one underneath, so you cant do much there coral placement wise. Also, no room for fish to hide, which is one of the 2 things good aquascape does.

I guess I'll give a dissenting opinion. I sorta like it. Sure, you will have to be careful what corals you put where, but that holds true in any system. If there's room, I'd add a couple pieces around the base to add more hiding places. Also - remember to place the rocks, then the sand. The last thing you want is for a burrowing fish or snail to cause a rockslide.

I also kind of like it. Id place it in the tank at an angle, to give it a bit more of an asymmetrical look.

it does depend a bit on which corals you plan to keep, as others have mentioned. Things like gorgonians, euphyllia and toadstools should not be mounted too near the surface of the water since they need room to grow.

A wrasse would love that architecture.
