Aquascape Thoughts?

Hello! As I wait for my first saltwater tank to arrive (Waterbox 130.4), this is my first post on this forum. Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions, regarding my Marcorocks aquascape before I mortar would be greatly appreciated!

It looks awesome. The only thing I would change is moving it off the back a little to make cleaning/scraping easier but that depends on maintenance habits.

That is an awesome scape. As stated already maybe have a 3-4 inch gap between the rocks and tank, for cleaning and potential corals.

I'm not sure about the left side, its very square with straight edges and sharp angles, they're not shapes you see naturally in nature so to me they stand out. its funny its only in the striaght on view you get it. Everywhere else and other view it looks great.

Well, I took as much of everyone’s advice as I could and my scape has morphed to the point of barely being recognizable compared to the original. Haha. Here are pics of the revised design. Hopefully there aren’t too many more recommended changes, as I started to mortar. Thanks everyone!

This is great! However if this is your first take I would seriously recommend getting live rock along with the dry rock that you have. Only intermediate aquarists can really control lack of beneficial bacteria. It needs to fend for itself and with only dry rock there will be no internal ecosystem

I was planning to kick start my cycle with Dr. Tim’s One and Only, as well as adding ammonia for a fishless cycle. I also have a Marinepure block for the sump. Hoping that with the very porous MarcoRock and the Marinepure, things will gradually come to life. Planning to be very patient with this whole process and not rush things.

The prospect of fending off hitchhikers in live rock scares me more than trying to bring things to life. Perhaps I’m just being naïve. If I would purchase some live rock, would it be okay to place it in the sump? I really don’t want to add much more to the display (other than fish, corals, etc down the road) unless I have to.

You’ll be fine. You could put some live rock in the sump, but as long as you take your time and keep the lights off for a couple months while building the bacterial population you should be fine.

I would do a quick search on some of the issues people have had with the marine pure blocks. If you get a good reputable live rock supplier, then cure it accordingly, you can mitigate anything potentially threatening. I did started my tank up with straight LR and cycled it in like a week, works wonders. Best of luck and happy reefing.

I like your scape, but like I mentioned in your other, other thread, hope that this is not one giant structure now. If it is it will be interesting to see how you move it into the tank. Regardless, good job on the scape for sure.
