Beginner Reefer here. I am in the first 30 days getting prepared for the cycle. Just wanted opinions on my Aquascape before I get too far along. Tried to go 2/3rds and leave enough negative space in the sand for future corals. Please advise. Thank you in advance

Need more places for the fish to hide and sleep. My philosophy, most fish should have one or two holes or caves. All of my fish disappear into the rocks every night except my banggai cardinals that are somewhat nocturnal.
Thank you.

I really am not a fan of stacking rocks to make arches like this, it’s just really unnatural looking to my eye. Personally, I would stack the rocks to make two separate islands, preferably with some caves or hiding spots in each island (you can break rocks up if need be). That way you can make two bommies with a little channel between them for fish to swim through. To me there is no cooler feature than having a channel between two walls/mounds/bommies of coral for fish to swim between, it just looks so good (and natural). If you want you can even have half arches or little ‘arms’ of rock coming out from the islands if you want some overhangs (IMO, arches that don’t connect are always better than arches that do). Anyway, that’s what I’d do, but it’s your tank, so if you like the way it is then completely disregard my advice/opinion.

Greetings Steve, Do your best to leave room between your rock and your glass. Enough to make room for cleaner magnet. It has a nice look. How are you cycling the tank?

Thank you. Why I asked.

I checked the spacing with my magnets already. I’m ok there. Just waiting it out right now. Have a little ammonia. Will add Dr Tim’s this week and keep checking levels . And be patient !!!! LOL

Perfect! Dr. Tims doesn’t disappoint. Good luck!

I’ve seen some people adding DrTims ammonium chloride to assist with the cycle. Thoughts on that? It wasn’t in my original plan.
So I haven’t had any experience with his ammonia product although I’ve heard good things about it. My usual process is transferring live rock and sand into a new tank with little to no cycle using Dr Tim’s One and Only. And never yet having a problem!!! One way or another you have to introduce ammonia. Good luck bud.

I have live rock and sand. had planned to us one and only by itself. I started ghost feeding already. Have low level ammonia so far. Dr Tims will be here early this week. then the waiting and testing begins. Thank you.
