Aquascaping with fish in mind?

Im planning the aquascape for my new 330g, I will be making a custom back wall and utilizing a lot of shelves and overhangs to get a more open look. In doing so Im effectively limiting the amount of rocks and thus limiting hiding places for fish.

Id like to create an environment that not only looks good but keeps its inhabitants happy. Are there any references to what types of hidey holes fish like? Has anyone incorporated bits of PVC pipe into a back wall to create holes to hide in or anything like that? Maybe a false back wall with space behind it so the fish have a place to hide?

Any ideas besides just make sure there is a rock pile they can hide/sleep in?

It really depends on the fish. You want to have some place where they can all get away from one another. As the tank agea and corals gro, these caverns will change. For example, my starry blenny primarily hides underneath a montipora shelf, and my damselfish sleeps behind some coral colonies
