So I’m trying to save some money and purchase the Amerimix Mortar from lowes. It cost 8 bucks compared to spending 40 on e-marco.
Has anyone tried using mortar mix from lowes or HD? I wanted to inquire before I do my aqua scape.

I think it can work, at least temporarily. If I remember correctly, I think the calcium (?) in our water caused the lowes mortar to crack overtime.

I think there was something “special” about the emacro that made it last long in aquariums.

Following.

Thats a good point.

I don’t think it’s the calcium. But reading the reef posts online shows a lot of people say that regular mortar will crack and break apart within 6-12 months.

I do not know if it’s just a few people that had that experience and the word just spread like wildflower, but I don’t think I’d personally want to take the risk - especially not in my 250 gallon.
