I live in NW Arkansas and get municipal water. The TDS out of the faucet is usually around 180-ish. I purchased the Aquatic Life replacement filter kit for my Barracuda RO/DI 4 part filter and I am having to replace them approximately every 3-4 months. I checked the TDS today for the RODI filter and it is at 130. I installed it in late May of this year. Am I doing something wrong or is it just the water here. Is there something that I can do to make the filters last long or is this just normal?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Josh

What are you replacing every 3-4 months? It really depends on your water qualitity but you should not have to replace everything that often.

I am replacing all four filters: the sedment filter, carbon filter,DI cartridge and the RO membrane.

I thought I was supposed to replace all at once

Only replace as needed

Sedimate when the pressure drops across the filter. I change mine annually
Carbon as needed depends on what your water supply has in it for disinfectant. I change mine quarterly
Membrane change when rejection rate goes down/ I change mine 3-4 years
DI as needed. This depends on what is in the water when it gets to that stage.

can someone please tell me how to know which filter to replace? I am replacing all four every 3 months because I always test my TDS before water changes and about every 3 months my TDS goes from 1-5 ppm to around 140

Where are you measuring the TDS?

The membrane should last at least a year, and have 98%+ rejection if working properly. So 130 tds doesn’t make sense.

What water pressure do you have on the meter?

Test TDS of your source water
Test TDS after the water has gone thru the RO membrane (Less then 98% replace membrane)
Test TDS after the DI resin (Greater than 0 replace DI)

Sedimate replace when needed (When the preasure drops 5-10 psi across the filter)

Carbon filter replace when needed this varies depending on what your supply water has in it for disinfectant
