Have had a 40 gallon aquatop up and running for just over a month and looking for smaller powerhead recommendations. I bought a koralia but seems to be too powerful for the size tank. Also little bulky for that style tank. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thank you

Any idea what foral you are going to keep? I was gonna say a gyre or a puck style wavemaker. My only concern with the pucks is that they are often hazardous as they are very open on the back (gyres too but not as much if they have a sleeve over them. Tunze makes some expensive but compact wavemakers

Ps I see the scrapper blade is in the water, try to keep the metal above the water line

Im brand new so I’m really not 100% what I want to get besides some clowns and goby. I have a damsel in there now to cycle the tank but he will be going back to the store. As far as corals just some easier soft corals. Thank you for the response. Tons of info out there on powerheads just not a lot of direction when it comes to these cube style tanks. Thank you for the advice on the scraper I will move that!

Do you have an ideal budget? Maybe certain features you'd like it to have?

Probably under 150$ and anything that Gets movement in the water. I’m new so I don’t entirely know what I need in a 40 gallon cube tank. I’m guessing nothing to crazy

Jebao makes some cheap pumps but sometimes they can be hit or miss . I would think the gyes or an slw20 would be good.

If you want a more reputable brand, tunze makes great pumps, as well as sicce. Aquamai and innovative marine have some cheaper d/c pumps (I am pretty sure the IM one is just a relabeled generic d/c powerhead.

Which Sicce pump did you choose for your return pump? I have the same tank (Recife 40) and I want to replace the junk return pump.

Also, maybe a dumb question, but is the skimmer really necessary? I've heard yes and no, depending on who / where you talk to. I would like to reclaim that area to place some probes for Neptune Apex. Overkill, yes, but I want to be able to keep an eye on things and see trends.

Thanks!
