I love my canister filter I had the aquamaxxx hob and it was not all that great
I highly highly recommend getting rid of the inserts for the third chamber after a few months it's disgusting lol.

Man this is awesome. I was definitely not familiar with these. I couldn't use a HOB because my tank was too close to the wall. Does this sit under your tank, or on the floor next to the tank? Lol I realize these may be goofy questions, I really appreciate your response. I'm super glad you've been successful.I bought this canister off Amazon. I put the intake with the longest extension in the first chamber. Return in the second . I bought some extra filter floss and just cut it to fit . I slacked on maintenance so for now I am changing every 2-3 days. It's super easy to clean and set up I wish I would have done this from the start
You can put it under or on the floor! I put mine in a plastic tub on the floor next to my tank just in case of a leak! It cleans so much better then the $300 skimmer I bought lol. If you have any questions please let me know! I have had a lot of trial and errors with this tank

Man that is so cool. I really appreciate this, as it really looks like a great way to maximize an aio. I have had a lot of trouble with this tank even though I love it lol. I think you've helped me solve my filtration dilemma. Do you have a problem with surface scum? I find it really hard to keep the water levels in the front and back different enough so that the display water "falls" into the back chamber skimming it. My levels are usually the same. I used a clip on surface skimmer from in tank, but my snails kept moving it, throwing off my ato.
You answered my question before I asked it lol. I was going to ask it flow and ato was affected.
Before trays are put in in use fibers to line the bottom.Bottom and middle tray I use aquatic expert filter floss. I also put my media in those trays. Top tray I use sunjojo filer pad and my chemical media. I use one layer for each tray. The return is I guess technically in the first chamber the picture I
attached was during a deep clean so I moved the return to the middle. No issues w ato or clogging The reason I am having to change frequently is due to my negligence. For the last few months I have been slacking on water changes and with the skimmer+ water pump failure I really started to notice how poorly my tank was doing. It's really helped improve the quality of the tank again with small amounts of spot cleaning and concisnt maintenance.
I did but I found aiming the return nozzle up gets rid of it. I also aim my power head towards the top. I keep one on the side and the other towards the lower back of the tank. I will move the lower powerhead every once in awhile to ensure all areas get movement. Also with the canister filter, the return nozzle is very strong and keeps everything moving in the second chamber. I'll attach a terrible illustration of my chamber set up and power head placements

Lfs had almost everything I needed. I'll of course have to buy the filter online. I hope your corals are doing great. What corals do you prefer to keep. I've got what I think is a decent enough light to grow birdsnest one day way down the line.
The skimmer clip worked like a charm, but I'd come home from work and the water level would be totally different. I wouldn't know if it was saltwater that had been added or if the ato dumped a bunch of freshwater. Such a pain, I'm not sure if a sump would've been easier or not lol.
