Hey just bought a new light it’s a aquatop skyaqua marine and I’m not sure how it works? How do I program it? Is this light good enough for sps/lps/softies?

Yes it did come with a remote and no it didn’t come with a manual. And besides I’m a guy I would never even touch the manual.

What size and does it have a function to ramp up and down? Depending on what corals you plan on it may be ok

I’m not sure if it does or not I mean it has a sunrise and sunset function but it’s just a button I push. It’s a 42 inch for a 48 inch sized tank granted I bought it but I’m trying to see if it’s any good that’s why I asked a question

I wouldn't out anything other than low light soft coral under it.


Funny enough, the website only lists the par as ">100" for the 48 inch model. That would be like buying a car that says ">5mpg."

I'd return it if you are keeping anything but soft corals. As to what to look for, it depends on what you want in the light (i.e. features)

No I mean what to look for in my coral. How will I know if it’s good for them or not

What corals are you looking to grow. Like Spare time said other than soft coral it’s a no go. Your better off with a Vipar Spectra black box light. I would return it get your money back and go the Chinese black box route or you could try to buy a used light from here. What is your budget for a
light ? Depending on that I can try by giving you some options.
One thing I learned in this hobby and I am very new to it is, do ALOT of research before buying anything. Not everything you purchase has to be the top of the line, but you don’t want to buy the wrong item and a few months down the road spend more money to replace what you just purchased. The old saying goes “ Buy cheap buy twice” Im sure you work hard for your money so don’t waste it to save a few bucks because in the end you will spend more. A light is not something I would try to skimp out on since you plan on keeping corals that use light as their food source.

m trying to grow a mixed reef tank with sps lps and softies. The lfs that sold it to me told me it was a good light for that but then I turned it on and it really was terrible!!! I paid 156 for this one and my budget is 200 and I know that’s not much it’s for a 55 gallon tank. I really do work hard for my money and it’s very thin at this time as I only have about 600 in the bank!! This light was sort of an emergency because my old one feel into the tank and completely broke so I sort of need something soon and I only get paid by the job. Believe it or not I’m actually a professional aquascaper. That being said there’s not a lot of people that have aquariums in my area so cash is slim!!

Ok so I bought one and I’ll get it tomorrow. Since all my corals are used to low light how do I adapt them? And how do I program it sounds very confusing!!!

Start low and slowly raise the intensity.
mid you go online there may be videos on how to. I don’t have this light so I don’t know.
