Was looking to purchase this protein skimmer for Black Friday sales and was wondering if anyone uses/used this skimmer could tell me if it’s good or not. I have a 20g long tank. Or if there are other models for a bit more that you would recommend. I know they can get expensive but I’m just looking for suggestions

I use this 100g 370gph on my tank and it works great! I got it for around 100 and I love it. Sure I could have gotten a more expensive one but this works! I use it as a HOB so I cant say how it works being submerged as used in a sump but I love it!

I don’t have a sump so it needs to be HOB! I did see some reviews about it being hard to get the right flow? Did you have a problem with that? I know petco is not the best place to get supplies and I normally don’t, but Petco has a sale on it right now for $112 and then another $30 off coupon so it would be $80 or so

I'm bias but I'd get it for that price! I also like to support LFS but for that price lol

It ran wet for the first few days even with both valves closed but after the break in it runs with the air intake completely open and the 2 air control valves completely closed. Every once in a while if I want more skimming I adjust the knobs. But once this thing is dialed in its solid!

The only negative for you I would have is that it is a larger unit and on a 20g will be BIG lol. If I could get it next to my 20g long I'd snap a shot for you. Measurements will have the skimmer sitting quite a bit higher than your tank with the skimmer flat on the counter or stand. It will work like crazy on the 20g!

Thanks for the help! Do you have a shot of it on your tank that you are using it for so I can get some visual perspective on what it looks like? Would this be too much for my tank too, do they make a smaller unit? Would it make it useless to only run it every once in awhile when needed?

Here's a shot of it on my 75g. I had to cut the lip on the trim but on a 20g long the lip shouldn't be an issue.

I am always for more the better so if you dont mind having a large unti on the 20 long it would be crazy good on it!

Thankyou for the pictures! It actually doesn’t look to bad hanging there, I may go with it! I do also have a glass top on my aquarium, one reason being I have 3 dogs and they shed a lot, so I would have to hang it on the back. Do you know how much clearance is required, looks like maybe 5-6 inches?

I cut my glass top also ;)

Just be careful as this was my 1st attempt and I didnt score the corner enough and came out like this...hahaha works but curve lol

Luckily these are only 15 bucks at my LFS
