I have been using this salt mainly on my tank for water changes. My question is with shelf life. I do 2 gallon changes 5 times a week so go through 10 gallons of water mixed up per week. What I want to know is some people say that Aquavitro Salinity needs to be used right away. Is that true?

I never heard of a salt mix which cannot be mixed for a day and used during a week time frame.

Thanks,

I mix of 50g at a time and use it over the course of a week or more.
I mix it for a max of 24 hours (If I remember to turn the pump off!) and then it sits for the week.
Been doing it this way for years. Great salt.

I mix a Rubbermaid container for about 24 hrs then do my water changes. I always have to clean up precipitates from the pump/heater. Never had that issue with reef crystals, although I do believe since I changed salts that my tank is more stable and looks better too! Can't speak of the shelf life once it's mixed, I wouldn't let it sit too long though to avoid excess precipitates building up.

Some salts have such high pH, calcium, and alkalinity that calcium carbonate can precipitate over time, showing up as a drop in alkalinity.

Keep it unheated and unstirred (after initial mixing) and that is less likely to be an issue.

In general, if the alk is OK for you, the salt mix is fine. :)
