So I have a 75 gallon reef ready by aqueon I have a chance to do swap for a 120 reef ready
Anyone here have one how did you plumbing into sump ?
I'm thinking converting the drains to both Herbie with both emergency overflow and have a return come back up over the tank
Has anyone else done this ? Do you T both main drains together as my sump has only 1 input
Thanks for any input

75gal is a good size but the 120gal will offer more stability. The larger system has been much easier for us to maintain.

Pictures of the sump would help. If you use a tee & combine both primary drains, I would expect you would have issues with the syphons as the drain must be below the water line in the sump & you would be trying to adjust using two gate valves. It should be possible, but painful to get it calibrated.

Perhaps consider using the 75gal as a new sump providing dual herbie overflows. This is how we have our system setup using a standard 75gal. The two primary drains have the gate valves & flow into the first chamber while the emergency drains are open & flow into the return chamber if there is a blockage.

2 options for you:

I had 120G with dual overflows. I ended up removing overflows and plugging holes up. I never ended up using that tank, as I found a 5' tank shortly after that I really wanted, but original plan was to install proper overflow (EMS) and then drill glass for the returns. Here is how to remove overflows:

Or you can run those overflows into modified beananimal/herbie

I have a 120 gal Aqueon tank. If you look at my build thread you can see how I plumbed it. :) I have dual drains on my sump, so yes, you can T them, but it will restrict the drain.

Thanks I think I'm gonna start a build thread going from my 75gallon to the 120
