I had some trouble with my heater a few weeks ago, dropped to 72 then back up to 79 and seemed fine but then, again, dropped to 74. Replaced and has been fine at a nice steady 80 for 3 weeks. I have 2 arc-eye hawkfish, both slowed down with temp drop but the one I have had the longest (by a few months) has faded in color and now just sits at the bottom of the tank and I don't even see him chasing food when I put it in. I isolated him and he is just laying there, sad, faded, and barely moving. Any ideas? I bought him from Petco when I first set up my tank in 11/2019, no idea how old he is (or if it is a "he"). No other fish or living things in that tank are affected, they all seemed to ounce back from the temp swings except him. He did with the first drop and rise, he seemed fine, although his color was faded after that first accident. BUT, I do know he was swimming and eating after the first incident and I actually thought he was fine after the second. But I guess not so much.
