are plant growing LED lights the same is coral growing LED lights I just saw some lights for sale on eBay but my research says they are mostly for growing flowers the light spectrum has a lot of red will this do on my reef tank? this is a blue line 300 watt LED Pro

I asked almost the same question. Nobody seems to know much about LEDs. All I can find out is you need to have the same amount of blue LEDs as white LEDs. It needs to be 50/50. I bought a marineland fixture and it has three blues to 18 whites and someone told me to add more blue.

Not true about the blue to white ratio! Most have more blue than white. My tank has a ratio is 2:1 blues over whites. Ive herd radions and orpheks are the best but honestly dont know. Ledtrics and reefkois look nice as well

Definitely more blue is best (I prefer a 2:1 ratio of blues to whites), but you need to watch spectrums...it can get complicated when you get into "good" vs. "best" ...and "best" seems to still be mostly a matter of opinion. While some research suggests that red spectrum is good for some coral growth, most agree that red is also associated with plant growth and plant growth in a reef tank is bad typically because it means algae growth. I'd steer clear of a fixture with mostly red LEDs. There are some pretty decent inexpensive fixtures available that are made for coral growth.

Red/green plant LEDs will not work for a reef. The color distribution is specific for green plants, not for the range of pigments found in corals.
