hope this is the right forum for this

I have been having a problem with some diatoms on my sand in my 95 reef tank
I thought it was due to my damsels suddenly rescaping my sand bed a couple of months ago they finally stopped but the diatoms continue about that time I ran out of the new life spectrum food I had been using I picked up a jar of nutrafin max by hagen
today I was looking at the label & noticed it contains riboflavin-5-phosphate so I started wondering are all forms of phosphates bad & by using this food am I just feeding the diatoms?

not really.. diatoms feed off silicates which are known to be in sand... as for the different po4 i think there is many and our test kits only pick up one... best advice i could give ya is watch your sticks if they start to brown you might wanna back off that food... if the colors hold don't sweat it..hth

Diatoms limmiting factor is silicates.

Phosphates are all bad but all foods have phosphates in them.
