I will eventually be buying corals for my new tank. Allot of these coral companies have multi packs at a bargain price. Are these multi packs worth getting? To be honest, I have read that some of these companies use this tactic to off load non-sellers. This is why I have apprehension and feel the need to ask about them.

If you’ve had good success in purchasing these multi packs please elaborate and brag about the company... (so I know where to buy). However please don’t call out the bad companies, the point is I want to know where to buy with positive comments only.

Thanks,

I personally only think they are worth it if you are starting out and are looking to add a bunch of coral at one time. Once you start filling your rock, you will want to know what you are getting when it comes time to filling valuable space. If they tell you what is in each pack, then yeah, definitely worth it.

So in my case it’s probably worth it.. LOL

I would suggest the coral club from wwc. It's a great deal for what you get and you can choose your tier, type of corals and experience level. They have the club subscription 20% off right now but I think it is ending soon.

I never liked the coral packs that are offered, I'm a very picky reefer and i am willing to pay for a specific frag. Like you mentioned earlier ... " these companies use this tactic to off load non-sellers "
Good luck with your new tank , and expect to go on one heck of a roller coaster ride with this hobby.

Yea, I’m familiar with the roller coaster, I was a marine fish keeper in the late 80’s early 90.

I do have certain tastes in particular corals. I would likely not be to happy with something that was not up to my tastes.

I’d suggest you find a reefer that’s trusted and has a huge variety of corals that you like. Pick out a large assortment of frags you want to buy. Ask what they can do for pricing since most will give you a discount on a large order.

That’s a great idea. Thank you.

I'm just starting out, and was considering one of these packs to get started, but I'm finding what I want and like is really different from others, so I will have to just take things slow.

Hi, yes choose a reputable company where you can choose you own frags that give you details about them, some companies will actually tell what size how many polyps or heads you are getting for your money, like you said you don’t want a mix bag where you don’t know what you getting, hope this helps, I live in England and I’ve used MailOrderCorals.Com a few times, I would love to order from American companies but the shipment and customs charge would be too much!

can you buy from Australia - always wondered where you guys across the pond get your corals from .

I bought a frag pack from ORA recently through LA and I was very happy; each piece was 2-3" and fully encrusted on rock; I prefer this to the very small 0.5-1" frags I have seen lately on a lot of the boutique coral websites.

“Worth it” is always subjective.

Frag packs are often x frags of y type of coral at vender’s choice. Now most venders do give you a nice price for the package. But it would be a terrible buy if you were very particular of exactly what frags you bought. You could easily end up with a several frags that you do not want. If you just want a selection and are flexible, it would be a bargain.

Absolutely!! Some of my favorites have been multipacks from guys like Battle Corals, TSA, and Fraghouse Corals. Many of our sponsors put together great packs if you ask them.

I actually got a 6 pack of Zoas off Ebay. They were your run of the mill zoas like Eagle Eyes, Radioactive Dragons Eyes, Pink n Gold Palys, Fire n Ice, and two others I don't know the name of just so I can start filling in my tank. Right now my Pink n Golds are the fastest growers....started with 3 polyps and now have 18 that i've fragged so I can trade 4 of them in for something else with my LFS in Tallahassee.

Check out @fishnreef frag packs.

Just sayin’ .........

I found this out the hard and expensive way. I don't like "mystery" packs because you will end up with corals you would not have picked out yourself had you been ordering individually. It is probably best for someone just starting up a new aquarium and wants some corals to get started. Then you could fill in later with nice corals of your choice. But for me they are not worth it. I'm too picky and I want very nice looking corals.
