My LFS told me they were. I've also read they likely will not eat frozen foods

what's the scoop on these?

I have one. He’s really cool. Mine eats frozen...but I got it from Diver’s Den.

Maybe DD is the way to got on this species.

Does he hide all the time, some people write that they never see them?

Mine does hide a bit. Not all the time. He’s in a 180 and I see him a little each each day. At feeding time he pretty much always comes out to grab a couple mysis.

They arent excactly difficult to keep they are just initially very shy, target feeding will help aswell as live foods to help them. Mine hides a lot too but hes always out to feed.

I got one from Diver's Den and put it in a 20 gal nano (after quarantine).
Ate frozen food right away, and continues to do so.
Behaves like a hawkfish. Sits still but then will make sudden dashes for particular pieces of food.
Not very active but doesn't hide either.
Really nice fish; doesn't bother any other fish, and they don't bother it.
At least from this one fish, I wouldn't say they are difficult at all.
Probably better suited for a small tank though; might rarely see it in a big tank.
