Are Jeabo pumps junk?

I am thinking about trying a Jebao pump, but I have a hard time believing they are quality for the price. What are your experiences?

If they are junk and don't last, how do they fail? I can possibly deal with a pump not starting, but I can't deal with a cracked housing shorting out in the water. When they fail, do they show symptoms or just stop working. I am planning on using one on a UV sterilizer and one on my reactors. If the UV pump fails and I don't notice it, it can cause the UV to overheat causing damage so that is not desirable.

How long do they last? When you buy an Eheim, you buy it for life. What are the expectations with these?

Can I use 1/2" tubing with these?

Bought a DC4000. Loud whinny noise. Some said it would go away with time. Nope and by then too late to return to Amazon. No way I could use that noisy pump in my tank in my living room. So I use it out in the garage on my mixing station. Still loud. But working. Bought a VarioS-2 Controllable DC Pump (792 GPH) - Reef Octopus. Quiet. Smoother than Jebao unit. Money well spent. No worries about breaking down while I am away from the house. What's peace of mind worth?

Two Jebao in series, as return pumps, that is the redundancy that gives me piece of mind :)
I recommend this setup for returns regardless of the brand.
In series? If the second pump seizes there is no way the first pump will push through it

Sidenote, does anyone know of a thread that explains the best way to hook up two returns for redundancy? I do like the idea.
I have 2 Eheim 1262 for my returns. My tank is a dual overflow so one goes to each. If I shut one pump off the water level in the sump rises a little bit. There is no chance of it overflowing though.

I only have one return line, so I'm looking for a way to do it in parallel I guess. Seems like I'd have to have check valves in case one pump fails so it doesn't just mostly pump through that pump.

Plug pump 1 normally and the output of pump 2, to the input of pump 1.
Power them from distinct power switches, if possible.

You can apply similar redundancy to heaters and cooling...

So last week my jebao return pump went out and I'm out of state, had my brother replace it with a sicce pump, but it took all day and the temp dropped to about 60 in display tank and had some coral death because of it.

Very helpful. Thanks for the reply

You are certainly welcome!

These threads accomplish nothing, nor has the 20 or so previous threads about Jebao.

Nothing but ya they suck or I've used them for years no issues. Back and forth back and forth.

they are not the best pumps, but I had one that lasted 3 years, I would say it's hit or miss with them, but I guess that's the same with anything. get one and see how it goes, just don't buy them off eBay, get them from Amazon for the customer service.

Welcome to every forum on the internet. You must be a busy guy to have the time to write nonsense on an aquarium forum.

All my jebao and jecod return pumps are still alive and kicking for about 4 years now. The poweheads i usually get about two years out of them.

Guys just have to understand the importance of this topic. All these pumps run in saltwater, all these pumps eventually fail at some point. Its the heart of the system, everyone should have a plan just incase it does fail. I personal rather buy 2 jecod pumps instead of one expensive brand. Only because i have a plan, and am prepared for whats to come. Do not buy jebao pumps used to use them as a return pump either, because this layer of equipment needs to be frequently cleaned to work at peak performance. Regardless if you want to save money, its better to have an extra return on hand incase something goes south.
