Are magnetic glass cleaners scratch proof ?

Just wondering if the glass cleaner I bought yesterday is scratch proof or I should not use it ? I’m just scared of damaging my glass. Thank you

Nothing is scratch proof. Use it cautiously, try not to pick up sand or drag tiny snails and you should be fine.

I used it yesterday to clean basically my front and both sides and am just worried I scratched it.

A lot of us do, myself included, but leaving it in the tank is a sure fire way to scratch your glass. ANYTHING hard that gets stuck between the scraper and the glass will scratch it. Coraline, sand, sprorbids, a snail... best bet is to clean your glass, remove the magnet scraper and clean it and store it in your equipment drawer.

As much as we all try scratching the glass is almost inevitable if your using a magnet scraper. Just be careful and hope you don't scratch it.

Yeah I only bought it yesterday, defiantly gonna stay away from using it. But I doubt one time cleaning after putting it in right after I purchased it would scratch my glass, I appreciate it. Thank yoy

I use them all the time and they can scratch glass. I got a piece of sand stuck in the blade and scratched my glass tank. Weirdly enough my acrylic tank has nothing, but I baby that one when I clean the front panel.

I try to make sure they don't have any sand between the blade, that way they don't scratch the glass

I would notice the scratch if there were any right ? Or are they so small that u would only be able to see on an angle ? Sorry I’m just EXTREMELY OCD and any imperfection drives me absolutely nuts. I took it out the box and used it right away to clean the front and both sides… I’m sure if I continued I would have scratched it but I think I’m good after one use after it being brand new

The tunze magnetic cleaner has done really well for me. Not the most efficient scraper and sometimes I need to make a few passes. However, I have used it essentially in the sand bed and it doesn’t pick up sand and I have not had scratches.

my first months with the tank I would attach a micro fibre rag to a stick…. But first rinse the micro fibre rag in RODI water hahaha, I know it’s overkill but I have issues lol

Normal use will not damage your glass. Leaving it in the tank and letting coraline, sand and gunk build up on it and rubbing that into your glass will scratch it. Keep the cleaner clean, dont drag it thru the sand and you'll be fine.

I'm just saying, you have the same opportunity to scratch your tank with the rag as you do a magnetic cleaner. If you scape up some sand or press the rag down on a tiny snail and drag it around, you'd still scratch the tank.

I’ve scratched two tanks with Magfloats. I bought a new one, thinking the one I had was too old, but it scratched the glass just the same.

I don’t use it anymore.

Yeah but I feel a blade is more prone to scratching, using a rag with slight pressure and lifting off and basically resetting helps. Where as the blade is continuously in the same position stuck to the tank. But yes I agree, what do u think is the most efficient way of cleaning ?

Unfortunately the magnetic cleaners are the best method. Personally I like the 2 sided one, 1/2 cloth and the other a blade.
