I'm doing a little DIY project that will involve about 6" of pvc to be in contact with my water 100% of the time and I'd like to paint black. I've seen people use Krylon Fusion in the past but can't find it at any of my local Home Depot or Lowes. I almost purchased another brand but I thought I should check first.

Is there anything ie chemicals I should avoid? Or anything in peticular I should look for, for example "gloss paint has x in it so avoid that" etc.

@Randy Holmes-Farley thoughts?

I know krylon fusion is safe, but I also know it can peel off and fish can eat it. not sure the effect that would have on the fish. but you can buy black pvc.

Where would I find black pvc and fittings in 3/4"? Not sure if I've seen it that small at Home Depot or Lowes, I know I can order the dark grey schedule 40 pvc online but I have a whole box of pvc fittings and plenty of pvc so was hoping to get some thing local if possible.

you could call local hardware stores. I have one near by that sells it. and if they don't sell it, they'll order it. this is actually a contractors store that's open to the public and there are so many saltwater guys that buy from there they actually have a saltwater specific section just for us lol

Haha that's awesome, I'll call around to some of the plumbing supply houses and see what they have, I'm an electrical Contactor so they'll sell to me.

Plasti-dip is safe and non toxic. Of course let it cure before it goes into the water.

You will find schedule 80 pvc is gray. Schedule 40 is always white. The Plasti-dip is very plyable and could me a problem if ingested.

I don't doubt you at all. In lowe's or hd plumbing you would most likely have to order black thou. They carry sch 40 and some 80 at hand.

Very true with BRS offer many colors in pvc. All sch 40 which fits our needs. I don't think they offer fittings in colors thou.

Black "pvc" from places like lowes or Home Depot is likely ABS and not pvc. If gluing make sure to use glue for ABS and not PVC
SEE, differences that I didn't know about lol I can tell you from experience pvc glue does work on the black pvc, err... I guess abs.... but it makes a bit of a mess lol it seems like it kinda melts the abs. bet abs glue wouldn't do that....

Not saying black pvc doesn't exist just that most big box stores have abs and not black pvc. It's also worth noting that some is a foam core, it's mostly used for no pressure drainage applications. Not that our systems create much pressure, I would just be careful using it for return lines.

yeah but you made my point... kind of... people like me can only buy it based on what the store calls it. which can lead to confusion and hassles down the road. knowing there is a difference now, next time I buy I will know to look a little better and see exactly what im buying.

As for coloring PVC, you can use fabric dye such as rit mixed with clear pvc primer to dye the white pipe what ever color you would like permanently. If doing a light color just make sure to use the clear primer to remove the red lettering first if you don't want to see it.

BRS has black pvc and black fittings. So does Glass-Holes, I believe. The colored pvc pipe from BRS is used with white, black or gray schedule 80 fittings. The color contrast between the pipe and fittings looks good. I have used Krylon Fusion under water with no ill effects. I don't think Lowe's or Home Depot sell it. You might try a craft store, like Hobby Lobby or Michael's. You can also order it on-line.

All of the local walmarts near me in Indiana stock Krylon Fusion. Wouldn't hurt to call and check your local store?

Usually the black pipe is ABS. So if you call around thats what to ask for.
