Hi I'm new to this hobby and new to this thread. I'm worried about my corals. Forgive me, I don't know the names of them. They were given to me. My polyps (I think) have been closed all day and yesterday. My hard coral is turning white. My green polyps don't look too good either. What am I doing wrong? One thing I think I did wrong was I added too much water in at the same time. The corals may have been hurt due to the change in temperature and salinity.

I got my water tested at a fish store and here are the stats:
Currently my pH is at a 7.8, Nitrate (NO2-) 0ppm, Nitrate (NO3-) 5.0ppm,
KH 7ppm, phos .25 ppm, & calc. good

My hydrometer at home said the salinity was around 33 ppt

I have no fish in the tank yet. Started the tank 3 months ago. I want to get fish but I want to make sure my water's safe.

Based on the pics, are my corals dying?

Nitrate not the best for corals. Do a 30% water change. Palys look fine. The Pavona and leather ???? Low to Moderate water movement would't hurt on the pavona. If you are using florescents, they may be old. When they are to old, the light shifts to the Red Spectrum and Algae will take off. chang at 6-8 months in general. Good Luck

Thanks scardall. Yeah it s a florescent light. Algae is a problem in my tank. I think the green palys are ok but i'm worried about the purple ones that are closed. They've been closed all day and part of yesterday. The pavona is turning white. It was all purple.

I havent done a water change yet. Should I do that before adding fish?
