Are my Goni’s dead?

Hi all! Just wondering if it’s time to call it on a couple Goniopora‘s I purchased about a month ago. They never opened back up after the coral RX dip, and I’m just not sure how long it can take for them to bounce back. I don’t know my current tank permanents are but I do know last time I did them my Phosphate and Nitrates were a little low.. Phos .02 and NA 6.3.

Everything else seems happy, but those two just never opened up after I placed them in the tank.

They still look alive. I wouldn't give up on them, but I would check your parameters again. Your p04 is low at .02. What is your salinity and what do you use to check it?

Can you test your water and post results?
If any of those zero out or go to high some of my gonipora close up. I have one that started to "melt" a little but once I fixed my Phos/Nitrates it's made a come back. My other three have been out and healthy the entire time. All of mine are frags that I have only had for 6 months or less.

They can stayed closed for months, if its dead it will turn white, but as long as it has color its alive. IME they like medium light and medium flow. But you really should have test kits and be able to test your water.

No but very retracted and due to stressors, such as:
Insufficient light and/or flow
Location - if sand gets on them, will irritate them
Low salinity
High phosphate

Add aminos occasionally to water as well as manganese

I agree I would’nt give up just yet. I’ve also had several frags in the past not open right way.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Here are my perimeters that I currently track. I have the tests kits for mag and calcium, but I haven’t really broken them out yet. I use a mix of Hannah and Salifert for testing

Phos: .42
Nitrates: 10.4
Ammonia: 0
Alk: 8.0
PH: 7.9
Salinity: 1.026

If your mixture was to strong it could have. But I don't think it would still be the issue at this point.

I do test my water, I just hate breaking out the big old box of science kits

I just relocated one to the far corner of my tank and made sure it is up off the sand… I’ll see how it does there

You need to check your Mag and Cal. Phos is obviously to high and my gonis retract when that happens. I had a spike to .96 and they closed up. I would do a 30% water change and add some type of Phos remover. The other day you said it was perfect. Did you test after feeding? I'd also add some Microbacter7.

It was my first time using it, and I cut the dose in half since I was only using half a gallon of water, but I was feeling a little unsure of the measurements so it may have been a little strong. Guess I will keep holding out hope for them. REALLY glad the guy at the LFS talked me out of the larger colony

Did you dip in saltwater or RODI?

CoralRX I often dilute a little but only a couple of minutes is what I find sufficient followed by a rinse in tank water

Honestly I doubt it was the dip. I don't really measure. I take a bowl and add a cap. Probably not the best practice. Phosphate has been my biggest head hurter. It's bottoms out, then sky rockets when I try and raise it. I now test 2-3 times a week. I would 100% hold off on acros. I just tossed two of mine yesterday. I have 1 left going strong but I don't have high hopes for it. I wanted acros for the challenge but with my tank just now reaching the year mark, Its still not ready. They last roughly 3 months.
