Dear all

I am new to saltwater hobby and i spend lot of time reading about it. Three months ago i started a nano reef tank using Fluval spec and i am extremely satisfied with it. Last month i introduced some corals and everything is ok except my two little mushrooms. I left them under the main rock in order to move and make themselves comfortable. One of them started to become more brownish and the other light green with many white fibers on it. I feed them with liquid feed twice per week and also i use Red sea vitamin A and B day by day. My other corals are getting bigger and brighter in colours and all my water measurements are perfect. Please advice because i cant find any trusted solution or guidance on the above issue. Thanks in advance.

Reef Microbe-Lift all in one

Are you broadcast feeding or target feeding? I ask because you are touching the shroom with the feeder, best not to do that.

I'd wager something is off because the candy canes look a little off as well.

Can you give a little info on your system? Parameters, lighting and nutrient export

I am using the standard led light of the Fluval spec ( day light for at least 6-7hrs per day and 1-2 hrs of black light daily). Standard wave maker and i installed a stronger water pump (eheim 1000). Water temperature 26-27C, ph 8,5, amonia 0, salinity 1.024, Alkalinity 9 and nitrate 10. I give the red sea vitamins by broadcast feeding method and the food by target feeding. I never touch them but i did it in order to open it a bit for better and clear pic otherwise is closed like a shell. The brownish coral is more exposed to the light rather than the other one and i am afraid that is the reason for the difference on the colours, but on the other hand as you can see on the pics the other one has more white fibers on the top.

I'd definitely stop the target feeding. Microbe lift is intended to be dosed to the tank not target fed.

From their site this is what's in it :
Chelated Iron, Essential Minerals & Trace Elements, Vitamins & Amino Acids, Calcium Concentrate, Iodide & Bromide, Strontium & Molybdenum.

None of which should be directly blown at the corals.

What is your calcium and phosphate levels

Phosphate 0.03 ppm
Calcium 440 ppm

Do you believe that lighting harms them?

I don't think it does as long as ment 1-2 hours of blue light and not that you mounted a black light on your tank lol

Any advice or any special treatments in order to help them recover?

Not very familiar with your lights so I'm afraid I can't be much help there. One question though, are you running the blue channel through out the day or only for 2 hours? The reason I ask is that most corals will change/adapt their colors to different lighting.

The lighting has 31 leds at 10w, 7000k and 1272lm. Daily i use lights for 7 to 10 hrs top (day light for at least 6-7hrs per day and 1-2 hrs of blue light). I found that mushrooms are acting strange with lighting and they need extra care from the protection of it and i am trying to understand if the lights are the problem to my aquarium.

It could be if you are only running 2 hours of blue a day. Corals use and need blue light for nutrition and growth. In the absence of it, it is very possible they can shift in appearance and stress out.

May I suggest doing this.

If on a 10 hour photo period ;

1 hour only blue
Turn on whites leave blue on 8 hours
1 hour only blues turn off white.

Snuggle those shrooms up next to your rock. They'll move where they are happy. Also move them away from other coral.
