Hello all,

so the tank has been up and running for about just a hair over two months. Currently stock I have:
Two clowns
Cleaner shrimp
Pistol shrimp
“Did have a yellow goby but jumped out some how and dog found it on the floor the next day”

5 frags

Here is my name water numbers:

sal: 1:023 holding strong even after my first good water change.
ALK: 9dkh dosed up from 7.8
PH: 7.82 with Hanna pin checker but RS
Cal: 440
Msg: 1320
Nitrates: .5
Pho’s: not sure yet still waiting on my test kit to come in.

temp 79 holding strong

are these numbers in good range? Do you recommend bringing any higher?

Only thing I’d say is being the salinity up a bit to 0.26 but other than that, seems fine. Maybe temp down to 78 as is give you some wiggle room since you don’t want it over 80.

Okay awesome I will be doing a water change this weekend. I will bring it up to 1.24 than another point at my next water change :). I just turned my heater down to 76 from 78

Another question? I am trying find out what goes into carbon dosing? I am using chem pure blue and not sure if that is considered carbon dosing? If it is whorls be having my ALK at 9 be bad or hurt anything?

if your nitrates are at .5 i wouldn't bother with carbon dosing. Carbon dosing is adding a source of carbon to feed bacteria to reduce nitrates.

Ph and salinity low

ph. 8.1 - 8.3
Salinity. 1.025
Temp 77-79
Ammonia < .03
Nitrate < .05

So I should take out the chemi pure blue then correct?

Thank you. I have trying to figure out how to raise my PH levels but not sure what to do. I am a little confused on buffers and not quite sure how buffers work and how the affect other parameters. I am still reading up on threads that I find about PH

I don’t have much faith in buffers
Try sodium bicarbonate diluted and added to the sump..... little by little
