I did a water change for my 10gal on feb. 17th(3 days ago). I've listed my water levels below. Are they okay and if not how can I correct them? I will say that I do not use any chemicals other than Prime conditioner. I do use tap water that is treated with a softener. I tested with API liquid test kit. The only thing living in my tank right now other than live rock is 1 clownfish.

Ammonia: 0.25ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 40ppm
pH: 8.0
KH: 179ppm
Specific Gravity: 1.021

Nitrates are very high, are you cycling your tank? If so its normal. if your not then you need major water changes. please lmk if you need help.

My tank has been established for about 5 months now. Nothing has ever died in it. I just did I water change like I do every month. Not sure what to do now lol!

You need to start using rodi water asap, tap water is horrible and is probally the reason you have high nitrate so before adding anything else to the tank i would start doing waterchanges using rodi water and get the nitrate down.

It looks like your nitrates are high and you should have no ammonia. Rodi water is water that has been ran through a ro filter system. You need to be doing water changes to bring these levels down.

If its a fish only tank, everything is fine except for the ammonia showing. If your tank is cycled, then there shouldn't be any in the tank. Retest, if you still get a reading, start doing water changes. Then again, the ammonia may be in your water source. Test your tap water before you put it in the tank next time.
